Latest Updates: Rane Twelves & Seventy-Two #NAMM2019

Modern scratch DJs have really taken to the Rane Twelves and the Rane Seventy-Two mixer. During my time at NAMM, I wanted to make sure and talk to the Rane team about these well-received pieces of gear.

Here's a quick refresher on the hardware:

The Rane Twelves are turntables, or really, “battle controllers”, meant to be used with Serato DJ.

They feature a high-torque, adjustable motor and a high platter resolution. Using its USB MIDI interface, it can connect directly to a Rane Seventy-Two mixer, or to your computer… and it basically works like a turntable from there. Except, of course, there's no tone arm or needle to worry about… and the other giveaway is the Strip Search with access to 8 hot-cue-triggers.

Using the TWELVE, the DJ can scratch and play with all the precision and creativity of a turntablist, but with the convenience of digital.

The Rane Seventy-Two is a 2-channel battle mixer with dual USB sound card. It features a 4.3″ touch screen, solid-steel construction, contactless MAG THREE faders with tension-adjust, 16 Akai Pro MPC performance pads, and stacked Serato and post-fader FLEX FX.

The combo of this hardware is meant for a smooth Serato experience for the modern turntablist.
